Helpful tips to keep your flowers fresh and looking beautiful for as long as possible.
Flowers are a living part of nature and benefit from a little care and attention. Following these simple steps will help extend the life of your bouquet or arrangement.
If your flowers are delivered wrapped with water on the stems, please follow these steps once you receive them.
Remove all packaging and trim the stems. As bouquets are usually delivered in water, it is best to do this over a sink.
Ensure your vase is clean before use to prevent bacteria affecting your flowers.
Cut approximately 1cm from the ends of the stems at an angle to help them take up water more effectively.
Fill your vase around three quarters full with fresh water and add the flower food provided. Tulips are the exception and only require a small amount of water.
Remove any leaves that would sit below the water line, as these can cause bacteria to develop.
Keep your flowers in a cool area, away from direct sunlight, radiators and draughts.
After 2–3 days, refresh your flowers by removing any fading stems, re-cutting the ends and replacing with fresh water.
If your flowers arrive already arranged in a container, simply keep the arrangement topped up with fresh water.
Do this over a sink or protected surface to avoid spills.
Place the arrangement on a coaster or protective base to protect furniture.
Check water levels every few days and remove any fading blooms to allow the remaining flowers to continue opening.
Keep compost moist but avoid over-watering. Position plants away from direct sunlight and draughts.
Remove faded flowers to encourage further growth and feed with liquid fertiliser every two weeks during spring and summer.
Protect plants from frost where necessary.
Lily pollen can stain fabrics. Carefully remove stamens from newly opened lilies and avoid contact with clothing.
If pollen does get onto fabric, do not rub it. Instead, use sticky tape to gently lift it away.
Keep flowers and plants out of reach of children and pets.
Flowers and plants are for display purposes only and should not be consumed.
We recommend placing arrangements on protected surfaces to avoid damage from water.
